March 14, 2010 - 10:30am

Don't miss the amazing story of Christine Gatabazi.  Come and hear this outstanding woman of God tell how God protected her during the 100 days of genocide in Rwanda.

During the 100 days of genocide in 1994 one-half of all Assemblies of God pastors and their families were killed. The Superintendent of the Assemblies of God, Jean Gatabazi, was out of the country when the genocide broke out and he could not return. Sister Christine will share how God protected her and what has happened in Rwanda over the past 15 years. Don’t miss this stirring story of God’s protection and God’s restoration.

The Rwanda Assemblies of God Church started in the year 1990. It started in the house of Rev. Jean and Christine Gatabazi. Jean and Christine started with about five people from the neighborhood for Bible study and prayer. This was a very difficult time in the history of our nation because of war! The congregation grew from 5 people to 150 by the year 1993. In November 1993; the church was officially registered and recognized as an indigenous church. By the time genocide erupted the church had planted 11 more churches in the country. Rev. Jean and Christine with their two children Joana and Joshua survived 1994 genocide but lost most of the church members; ¾ of the congregation were killed and other churches were demolished and the members were murdered. Mostly with no trace neither of members nor church buildings! After all this; Rev. Jean and Christine have survived to witness the faithfulness of God to His precious promise that Jesus is building His church and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it. As of today the church has thrived from the ashes and the Lord has multiplied His church to 138 (one hundred and thirty eight) churches national wide and in every province of Rwanda; in the capital city of Kigali alone, there are 11 churches.
