Our church history goes all the way back to 1928 when a band of believers joined together to establish a church that would be known for preaching the full gospel of Jesus Christ. Over the years the church made several moves before arriving at 40th and S. Pennsylvania in Oklahoma City. At that location the church grew to several hundred members.
In 1969 Rev. Dan Sheaffer became Pastor of what was then the First Assembly of God Church of Oklahoma City. Many changes would occur in the coming years. The church began growing and soon outgrew the facilities and a 1,200 seat sanctuary and educational building were added. In addition to the numerical growth, Pastor Sheaffer began preaching against the sin of racism and teaching the people that the makeup of the local churches should be reflective of the demographics of the city. Before long the all white church was welcoming members from all races.
In the late 1970’s construction began at the present site and the new sanctuary was dedicated in 1979. With the move the name was changed to Crossroads Cathedral to reflect its location close to the intersections of two major highways. In the years since then this church has been a beacon of hope for not only for Oklahoma City but has been blessed to be a part of establishing thousands of churches overseas.
In 2007 Rev. Gary Bohanon became the Senior Pastor. Under his leadership the church changed its name to Crossroads Church. It was felt that this better reflected what we are about—People. There has also been a renewed call to be a church that makes an impact on our community. We thank God for the heritage of this church and for all that has been accomplished. However, our focus now is upward, outward and onward. You may not have been a part of the history or this church but we would invite you to come and be a part of the future.
